You need to install this software in order to use the jupyter notebooks that are part of this course.
Open edX is a free and open source software project, but that only regards the cost of the software itself. You still have to develop courses, and procure a server and system support, plus you'll need someone with the expertise to configure and potentially modify the source code so that the platform meets your project's requirements.
Directions adapted from software tools for Software Carpentry workshops, please see license details below.
- The INCA-MCE add-on to INCA supports rapid measurement, calibration and control by providing a real-time connection to the ECU. Because of the outstanding measurement and calibration performance of INCA-MCE, a test bed automation system, for example, is able to continuously monitor the engine under test's behavior as well establish a closed control loop with the ECU.
- Edx-dl is a simple tool to download videos and lecture materials from Open edX-based sites. It requires a Python interpreter (= 2.7) and very few other dependencies. It is platform independent, and should work fine under Unix (Linux, BSDs etc.), Windows or Mac OS X.

Python is a popular language for research computing, and great for general-purpose programming as well. Installing all of its research packages individually can be a bit difficult, so we recommend Anaconda, an all-in-one installer.
Regardless of how you choose to install it, please make sure you install Python version 2.7
We will teach Python using the Jupyter notebook, a programming environment that runs in a web browser. For this to work you will need a reasonably up-to-date browser. The current versions of the Chrome, Safari and Firefox browsers are all supported (some older browsers, including Internet Explorer version 9 and below, are not).
